About the experience

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking this tour.

How do we get from the east coast to Samana on this tour?
The trip starts in a modern, comfortable air-conditioned bus across the eastern coastal plain of the Dominican Republic, through small towns and wide pastures, with a breakfast stop at La Topara, a typical restaurant in Colonia del Cedro. After passing Miches, the bus follows the coastal road to the La Canita dock, where you board a boat to cross the bay to the province of Samana.
What is the visit to Salto El Limon like?
In Samana a safari truck takes you through town to a country house where a local family shows how they prepare Creole chocolate and coffee, which you get to taste, along with their fruits and plants. At the ranch in the mountains you ride a horse for about 30 minutes to Salto El Limon, a waterfall with a 67 meter drop surrounded by humid forest, where you can swim, take photos and enjoy the view.
Do I have to ride a horse to reach the waterfall?
In this program the route from the ranch to Salto El Limon and back is done on horseback, about 30 minutes each way, and the description does not mention a walking alternative. The tour data does not say whether riding experience is required or list weight or age limits. If you are unsure about riding, or are traveling with children or someone with limited mobility, message our team on WhatsApp before booking.
What do we do at Cayo Levantado?
After lunch, the safari truck takes you back to the dock and a boat carries you to Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island. There you can enjoy the white sand and clear water, swim, or simply relax in the sun under the coconut palms, and you can buy local handicrafts as a souvenir. At the end of the visit you board again for the crossing back to La Canita, and the bus returns you to your hotel.
What is included in the Salto El Limon and Cayo Levantado tour?
Your booking includes round-trip hotel pickup in an air-conditioned bus, an official bilingual guide in English and Spanish, the boat crossings, and a typical Dominican lunch at the ranch restaurant after the waterfall. The described route also uses a safari truck in Samana and horses to the waterfall. The description mentions a breakfast stop, so ask our team on WhatsApp whether breakfast is covered on your date.
How long is the day and what time is pickup?
This is a full-day excursion with a long route: a bus ride along the east coast, a bay crossing by boat, the safari, the horseback ride to the waterfall, lunch, the visit to Cayo Levantado and the trip back. Expect an early start and a return in the late afternoon or evening. The exact pickup time depends on your hotel, and our team confirms it, along with an estimated return time, on WhatsApp after booking.
What should I bring, and what is not included?
Wear comfortable clothes suitable for horseback riding with a swimsuit underneath for the waterfall and Cayo Levantado, and bring a towel, a dry change of clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent and a waterproof bag for your phone. The price does not include tips for guides and crew, premium and international drinks, souvenirs and personal expenses, or travel insurance, so carry cash for tips and handicrafts.
How do I book, and is there a price for children?
You reserve online with a $10 deposit and pay the rest later. The listed child price is the same as the adult price, $95 per person. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the tour, except for the $10 deposit, which is non-refundable. A licensed local operator with a MITUR license and liability insurance runs the excursion, groups have up to 30 people, and we offer 24/7 support on WhatsApp.
