Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking this tour.

What will I see on the Santo Domingo full-day tour?
The day starts at Los Tres Ojos, a natural freshwater spring, and continues to the Colonial City, the oldest city in the New World. You see the Catedral de Santa María la Menor, the first cathedral in the Americas, the Alcázar de Colón palace, La Atarazana street, and churches, parks and restored buildings of the colonial zone, ending at the National Aquarium.
What is the Alcázar de Colón?
The Alcázar is the first palace built in the New World and was the home of Diego Colón, son of Christopher Columbus, who governed the island in the 16th century. It served as the seat of the Spanish conquistadors for more than 60 years. It is one of the most interesting buildings you see on this tour, and your bilingual guide explains its history.
Does the tour go beyond the Colonial Zone?
Yes. After leaving the Colonial City you pass by the National Palace and the Plaza de la Cultura, a complex of modern buildings surrounded by gardens that includes the National Theater, the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of the Dominican Man, among others. Before heading back, the group stops for lunch and shopping and then visits the National Aquarium.
Is lunch included, and is there time for shopping?
Yes. Lunch at a local restaurant is included, and the itinerary includes a stop for lunch and shopping before the final visit to the National Aquarium. La Atarazana street also has gift shops, boutiques and art galleries. Premium and international drinks, souvenirs and personal purchases are not included, so bring cash or a card for anything you want to buy.
How long is the day and how does transportation work from Bayahibe?
The tour lasts about 8 hours and includes pickup and return to your hotel in an air-conditioned bus, so you travel comfortably from the Bayahibe area to the capital and back. The exact pickup time depends on where your hotel is, and our team confirms it with you on WhatsApp after booking so you know when to be ready in the lobby.
What should I wear for a city tour in Santo Domingo?
The day involves a lot of walking through the colonial streets and visits to churches and the cathedral, so wear comfortable shoes and light clothing. Covering your shoulders and knees is a good idea for the religious sites. Bring sunscreen, a hat, water and some cash for tips and shopping, since tips for guides and personal expenses are not included.
Who guides the tour and in which languages?
An official bilingual guide leads the day in English and Spanish, explaining the history of each historic site, from the founding of the city by the Spanish to the restoration of the colonial zone after being sacked by pirates. Groups have a maximum of 30 participants, which keeps the visit organized at each stop.
How do I book and can I cancel?
You reserve online with a $10 deposit and pay the remaining balance later. The deposit is non-refundable, and you can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before the tour, except for that deposit. Travel insurance is not included. The tour is run by a licensed local operator with a MITUR license and liability insurance, and support is available 24/7 on WhatsApp.
