About the experience

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking this tour.

How do we get to Saona Island on this tour?
An air-conditioned bus picks you up at your hotel and takes you to Bayahibe. From there, speedboats carry you along the beautiful coastline of the Parque Nacional del Este, with a stop at the natural pool and a brief photo stop at the mangrove forest where seabirds nest and raise their chicks. The return trip to Bayahibe is made aboard a large catamaran, so you enjoy both kinds of boat in one day.
What is the natural pool stop like?
The natural pool is a shallow sandbank in the middle of the sea and the natural habitat of hundreds of starfish. You spend about half an hour there relaxing in the water with Dominican rum, taking photos of these friendly Caribbean creatures. Snorkeling at the natural pool is part of the inclusions, so it is a great moment to look around the clear, calm water before continuing by speedboat toward the island.
What is there to do on Saona Island?
Saona, often called Paradise Island, has more than 20 miles of lush palm trees and white sand beaches with turquoise water. On the island, a friendly entertainment staff organizes activities like beach volleyball and merengue dance contests, and you can relax on lounge chairs, enjoy the open bar and have lunch. You are free to join the activities or simply swim and rest on the beach at your own pace.
Are lunch and drinks included on the Saona tour?
Yes. The tour includes a Caribbean buffet lunch on the island and an open bar with national drinks, including Dominican rum, which is served from the natural pool stop onward. Premium and international drinks are not included and would be paid separately. If you have a food allergy, a special diet or prefer non-alcoholic drinks, let our team know on WhatsApp after booking so they can check with the operator.
What is the catamaran ride back like?
The return from Saona to Bayahibe is an unforgettable party boat aboard a large catamaran. You can lie back on the stretched nets while Caribbean waves splash you and the warm breeze cools your skin as you sail, and it is the perfect time to work on your vacation tan. Bring sunscreen, as you will spend a good part of the ride in the sun, and keep your phone in a waterproof bag because of the spray.
How long does the Saona excursion last?
It is a full-day excursion of about 8 hours, including the bus ride to Bayahibe, the speedboat trip with the natural pool and mangrove stops, lunch and free time on the island, and the catamaran return. Pickup is early in the morning, and the exact time depends on where your hotel is located. Our team confirms your pickup time on WhatsApp after you book, so please be ready in the lobby a few minutes before.
What should I bring to Saona, and is there a child price?
Bring a swimsuit, a towel, plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a dry change of clothes and a waterproof bag for your phone. Carry some cash for tips, souvenirs and personal expenses, which are not included, just like premium drinks and travel insurance. The listed child price is the same as the adult price, $75 per person, and families are welcome to message us on WhatsApp with any question.
How do I book the Saona tour and what is the cancellation policy?
You reserve online with a $10 deposit and pay the remaining balance later. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the tour, with the exception of the $10 deposit, which is non-refundable. The excursion is run by a licensed local operator with a MITUR license and liability insurance, groups have up to 30 people, guides speak English and Spanish, and our team offers 24/7 support on WhatsApp.
