Planned trips in Puerto Plata

Family trip in Puerto Plata

Families rarely fall apart over the hotel.

In short

My Dominican Trip plans family trip trips in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, for groups of 4 to 8. You land at Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP), 15 to 30 minutes from the hotels. We arrange the flights, the rooms, the airport pickup, the car and the tours, and quote one price per person. Planning is free and nothing is paid until you approve the itinerary.

Why Puerto Plata for this group

Families rarely fall apart over the hotel. They fall apart over the two hours between landing and the room, the day the teenagers are bored while the toddler naps, and the dinner where nothing on the menu works for one of them. We plan around those, because those are what people remember.

The north coast, and the country's original tourist zone. Puerto Plata is a real city with a Victorian centre, a cable car and a fort, and Sosua and Cabarete sit beside it. Cabarete is a serious kitesurfing destination, not a marketing line.

Not the right zone if: Groups flying into Punta Cana. It is the other end of the country and the drive is most of a day. For this kind of group we would also look at Punta Cana or Bavaro.

Where you land: Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP), 15 to 30 minutes by road. All-inclusives at Playa Dorada, town hotels, apartments in Sosua and Cabarete.

What changes for a family trip

These are the things that decide whether the week works, and they are decided before you book, not on arrival.

Worth knowing before you commit

What we handle

Flights

We find routing that works for the whole group and hold it. Large groups rarely fit on one flight; the arrivals get planned around that.

Hotel or villa

All-inclusive, apartments or a private villa. Above about eight people a villa is usually cheaper per person, and we say so when it is.

Airport pickup

Private vehicles sized to the group, with the flight tracked. No taxi negotiation at midnight.

Car rental

When the group wants to move on its own, with the insurance sorted up front rather than at the counter.

Tours

Chosen against the ages and the energy of this group. We say which ones we would not put you on.

One contact

One person and one WhatsApp number from the first message until you are home.

What we already run in Puerto Plata

Real excursions, at today's prices. Any of these can go into the plan; if you want something else, we find it.

Prices are what is published today and move with the season. For a group they almost always come down.

Free, no obligation

Tell us about the trip

The more you tell us here, the less we have to ask later. A real person reads it the same day and gets in touch to build the plan with you.

How do we reach you?

We start here so a real person can answer you today, even if you stop halfway. Nothing is charged and we do not pass your details to anyone.

No group is too large. We plan for two people and for two hundred.

How firm are the dates?

If they can move, we can often find a better week. Say so and we will look.

How are you getting here?

Flights

Most groups already have flights and hand us everything after landing. Either is fine.

Not sure is a fine answer. The zone should follow the group, not the other way round.

What should the trip look like?

What do you want us to handle?

Where would you rather stay?

What do you want to do here?

Pick as many as you like. We will tell you which ones fit the group and which we would not put you on.

What pace?

This decides which hotels we even look at. A range is enough and it stays between us.

What it costs

The planning is free; you pay for the trip, not for the plan. Our margin sits inside the services we operate, which is why the number we quote is the number you pay.

What moves the cost per person, in order: the season, the hotel category, the group size and the number of nights. December, Easter week and the first half of August are the expensive windows. Group size cuts both ways — it earns a better room rate and a private vehicle instead of a shared one, and past roughly sixteen travellers the transport becomes a bus, which changes the maths again. There is no upper limit: we run trips for two people and for two hundred.

We do not put a package price on this page, and not out of coyness. A room costs one thing in September and another at Christmas, a flight from Atlanta is not a flight from Madrid, and a group of eight prices differently from a group of eighty. A number printed here would be wrong for almost everyone who reads it.

What we do instead: you fill in the form above with as much detail as you can, we read it the same day, and we get in touch — WhatsApp, a call, whichever you picked — to build the itinerary with you. Then you get the cost, itemised, for your group and your dates. No charge for any of that and no obligation to book.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get us rooms next to each other?
Yes, and we ask for it when the block is reserved rather than at check-in, which is when it stops being possible. Tell us who needs to be beside whom and we put it in writing with the hotel.
Do you provide car seats?
Yes, on request. They are not standard here, so we need the ages of the children when you ask, not on the day.
What if one of the children has a food allergy?
Tell us at planning time. We pass it to the hotel and to every tour that includes a meal, and we confirm back to you which ones can handle it before you pay.
Is it safe to travel with small children?
The resort zones we work in are used to family travel and our drivers are the same people year round. What matters more in practice is heat and sun timing, which is why we schedule beach and pool early and late rather than midday.
Which airport do we fly into for Puerto Plata?
Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP). The drive to the hotels is 15 to 30 minutes, and we meet you inside arrivals rather than at a kerb.
Is Puerto Plata the right choice for us?
It suits watersports, groups that want a city and a beach, value. It is not the right pick if you want groups flying into Punta Cana. It is the other end of the country and the drive is most of a day. Tell us the group and we will say plainly if somewhere else fits better.
How much does the planning cost?
Nothing. There is no planning fee and no charge for a quote. We earn inside the services we operate, so you pay for the trip and nothing on top for organising it.
How quickly do you reply?
The same day, within about four working hours. A full itinerary with prices usually takes one to two days, because we check live availability rather than sending a template.
Can everyone in the group pay separately?
Yes. A deposit holds the booking and each person pays on their own link, so one person is not carrying the whole cost.
What if our dates are not fixed yet?
Send the month and say the dates are flexible. Moving a group trip by a week often changes the price per person noticeably, and we will tell you when it is worth doing.

Anthony Hunt Founder, My Dominican Trip

I run My Dominican Trip from the Dominican Republic. We operate the transfers and the excursions ourselves rather than reselling them, which is why this page can tell you what will not suit your group instead of selling you whatever is available. Every price, inclusion and drive time here comes from the records we sell against, and I check them when the operator changes them. Planned-trip requests come to me.
