Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking this tour.

What places does the La Romana and Altos de Chavón tour visit?
The route heads east to San Pedro de Macorís, with a stop at its central park, a cigar factory and the municipal market. Next comes Cueva de las Maravillas, then La Romana, where you see the sugar mill from a panoramic viewpoint, the central park, city hall and the Santa Rosa de Lima church. The day ends in Altos de Chavón, the village of artists.
What is the visit to Cueva de las Maravillas like?
Cueva de las Maravillas is one of the main stops of the day. Inside, a guide who specializes in the cave explains the full history of the site, so you get context beyond what you would see on your own. It sits on the way between San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana, which makes it a natural stop on this cultural route along the southeast coast.
What will I see in Altos de Chavón?
In Altos de Chavón you walk along narrow streets paved with coral stone and see Italian-style architecture built from coral stone and wrought iron. The group visits the San Estanislao church, chosen by many famous people for their weddings, and a museum with Taíno artifacts. There is also a photo break overlooking the Chavón River, where films such as Apocalypse Now, Jurassic Park and Rambo were shot.
Is lunch included on this tour?
Yes. Lunch at a local restaurant is included, and according to the tour description it is served at a typical restaurant in the city of La Romana, between the cave visit and the afternoon in Altos de Chavón. Premium and international drinks are not part of the package, so if you want something beyond what is served with the meal, plan on paying for it separately.
Can I buy cigars during the tour?
Yes. In San Pedro de Macorís the group stops at a cigar factory to watch a demonstration of how cigars are made, and you can buy high-quality cigars there, often at better prices than elsewhere according to the tour description. Keep in mind that purchases and souvenirs are personal expenses and are not included in the tour price, so bring some cash or a card.
How long is the tour and how does pickup work?
This is a full-day outing of about 8 hours. Pickup and return to your hotel in an air-conditioned bus are included, so you do not need to arrange your own transportation. The exact pickup time depends on where your hotel is located, and our team confirms it with you on WhatsApp after you book so you know exactly when to be ready in the lobby.
Which languages does the guide speak and how big are the groups?
The tour includes an official bilingual guide who leads the day in English and Spanish, so both English and Spanish speakers can follow the history of each stop comfortably. Groups have a maximum of 30 participants. If you have a question about the group on your specific date, our support team answers 24/7 on WhatsApp before and after you book.
How do I book, and what is not included?
You reserve online with a $10 deposit and pay the rest later. The deposit is non-refundable, and cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the tour except for that deposit. Not included are tips for guides and crew, premium and international drinks, souvenirs and personal expenses, and travel insurance.
