About the experience

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking this tour.

What does the Salto El Limón and Cayo Levantado tour cover?
It is a long adventure day that crosses the eastern coastal plain, continues past Miches to the Muelle de la Cañita and crosses the bay by boat to Samaná. There you ride a safari truck to a farmhouse, go on horseback to the Salto El Limón waterfall, have a typical lunch and finish with time on the island of Cayo Levantado before heading back.
How do we get to the Limón waterfall?
From the ranch in the Samaná mountains you ride horses for about 30 minutes to reach Salto El Limón. The waterfall drops 67 meters and is surrounded by the humid forest of the Sierra de Samaná. You can take a refreshing dip, take photos and enjoy the view, and then the horses bring you back to the ranch, where lunch is served.
What happens at the farmhouse in Samaná?
The safari truck takes you through the village to the home of a humble local family, where you learn how traditional Creole chocolate and coffee are prepared and get to taste them. You also see the fruits and plants they grow. It is a short, authentic stop that shows rural life in Samaná before the group continues up the mountain.
What is there to do on Cayo Levantado?
After lunch, the safari truck returns you to the pier and a boat takes the group to Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island. There you can enjoy its white sand and clear water, or simply relax in the sun under the coconut palms. Local handicrafts are sold on the island if you want a souvenir, which is a personal expense.
Which meals are part of the day?
A typical Dominican lunch is included, served at the ranch restaurant after the horseback ride to the waterfall. The tour description also mentions a breakfast stop at the La Topará restaurant in Colonia del Cedro on the way; whether breakfast is covered on your date is confirmed by our team on WhatsApp. Premium and international drinks are not included.
How long is the day and when is pickup?
This is a very full day: a road trip across the east, a bay crossing, a horseback ride and an island stop, so expect to leave early and return late. Pickup and return to your hotel in an air-conditioned bus are included. Because the exact times depend on your hotel and the day's operation, our team confirms your pickup time on WhatsApp after booking.
What should I bring for this excursion?
Pack a swimsuit and a towel for the waterfall dip and Cayo Levantado, plus sunscreen, a hat and a change of clothes. Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes suitable for horseback riding and wet trails. Bring cash for tips, souvenirs and premium drinks, which are not included. The day is guided in English and Spanish by an official bilingual guide.
How does booking and cancellation work?
You reserve online with a $10 deposit and pay the rest later. The deposit is non-refundable, and cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the tour, with that deposit as the only exception. Groups have a maximum of 30 people. The excursion is run by a licensed local operator with a MITUR license and liability insurance, with 24/7 support on WhatsApp.
